2020/2021 Religious Education Classes: Updated October 27, 2020
Our goal for this fall is to maximize learning and to support the needs of families by providing multiple learning platforms for all grades for the 2020-21 school year. In-person Religious Education classes began on Sunday, October 18. Our Virtual classes have been unexpectedly delayed. We anticipate that virtual classes will begin the week of Sunday, November 1.
Students participating in virtual classes will need to pick up their curriculum book at the Parish Center (80 Atlantic Avenue) between 9:00am and 12Noon, Monday through Thursday.

Based on guidelines from the Archdiocese of Boston, and in accordance with the DESE, several safety measures have been implemented to ensure the safest possible learning environment for our students and teachers, including, but not limited to:
✓ Reduced class sizes (up to 9 students per classroom)
✓ Touchless temperature checks at the door before each class
✓ Hand sanitizers in all classrooms
✓ Mandatory masks for all teachers and students
✓ Handouts, individual take-home books, and smart TV's for learning
✓ Extensive cleaning of classrooms, stairwells, hallways, and bathrooms after each class
Virtual -- Individual (by Grade) Lessons:
Virtual classes begin the week of Sunday, November 1 for all grades. Communication of lessons will be through a Parish FlipGrid invitation, which will be sent to the family email. Lessons will be weekly. There is no pre-determined time or hour. Students may choose any time convenient to them during the week to open and work on their lesson. Students will respond to the teacher in the course of completing each lesson and/or activity.
Virtual -- Multi-Grade Family Lessons:
Virtual classes begin the week of Sunday, November 1. Families with students in more than one grade may choose to have each student do his/her own lesson; alternately, a family may choose to use a multi-grade lesson, which involves the whole family at the same time. Communication of lessons will be through a Parish FlipGrid invitation, which will be sent to the family email. Lessons will be weekly. There is no pre-determined time or hour. The family may choose any time convenient to them.
Each child will receive their own curriculum book. We will be using a curriculum by 'Our Sunday Visitor' and 'Alive in Christ' series, using the FlipGrid platform. Students participating in virtual classes will need to pick up their copy at the Parish Center anytime between 9:00am and 12Noon, Monday through Thursday.
The fee for Religious Education classes is $100 per family, regardless of the number of children attending. Registration is required for all students including those attending Private School, Parochial School or Boarding School. For Private or Parochial School students, fees will be waived as long as they are receiving their Religious Education at the school. Boarding School Students must make arrangements with the Religious Education Office. For questions, please reach out to Religious Education at 781-631-8340.
We sincerely appreciate your ongoing patience as we adapt to so many changes.
The Sacrament of Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be held as schedule at Our Lady, Star of the Sea on Sunday, November 8. We anticipate three (3) separate services (1:00pm 2:30pm, and 4:00pm) in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines set by the Archdiocese of Boston. Parents will receive an email regarding the scheduled time for their Confirmation student. Bishop Mark O’Connell will be celebrating the Sacrament with us.
We will have no Confirmation rehearsal. Bishop O’Connell will provide instructions to our Confirmation candidates immediately prior to the Sacrament.
Confirmation registration forms are due as soon as possible before October 23rd.
First Communion Update
Our First Communion celebration was delayed in May due to the pandemic. We are delighted to announce that we are celebrating this sacrament during weekend Masses throughout August, September and October 2020. First Communion rehearsals will be held 45 minutes prior to Mass. Parents of first communicants have been sent a link by email to sign up for a time for First Communion.
