Saturday Vigil: 4:00pm Sunday: 7:30am, 9:00am, & 11:00am Every Weekday (Monday - Saturday): 9:00am News & EventsMISSIONARY COOPERATIVE APPEAL 2023
August 5&6 SOCIETY OF ST. PETER THE APOSTLE The Pontifical Mission Societies (TPMS) are a worldwide network at the service of the Pope that supports the missions and the Young Churches with prayer and charity. These include the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, the Society of St. Peter the Apostle, the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) and the Missionary Union of Priests and Religious. The four societies have been defined as “pontifical” since 1922, thus indicating their status as official instruments of the Pope and of the universal Catholic Church.
Throughout the world, The Pontifical Mission Societies support the proclamation of the Gospel, the building of churches, together with the work and witness of mission priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay pastoral leaders. These missionaries reveal the compassionate heart of Jesus through their work that often entails providing not only spiritual support but also food, education, and medical care to the most vulnerable communities in the Pope’s missions. The societies care for and support new churches until they can be self-sufficient. This was the case of the Church in the United States which was considered a mission territory until 1908. Many of the churches in this country were built thanks to the support of The Pontifical Mission Societies. As the 19th century was drawing to a close, Jeanne Bigard, and her mother, Stephanie, received a letter from a French bishop serving in Japan. He shared the news that more than 50 young men were preparing for the priesthood and also mentioned the obstacles and difficulties he was enduring in providing for them and trying to accommodate the growing number of young men applying for admission to the seminary. Stephanie and Jeanne began gathering funds to support those seminarians. In 1889, they established the Society of St. Peter Apostle to support mission vocations, both priestly and Religious. In the first year of its foundation, the Society of St. Peter Apostle aided approx. 2,700 seminarians. Today, near 28,000 major seminarians, mostly in Asia and Africa, receive an average annual subsidy of $700 per student. The assistance enhances all men and women Religious novices. When she was 10, Sister Linda Joseph received a kiss on the forehead from St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta. That was the day she knew she wanted to be a religious sister and dedicate her life to helping children in need. “I was blessed in many ways throughout my life,” Sister Linda said. “Mother Theresa kissing my forehead gave me a sense of peace that I had never experienced before. I do hope that we can provide our students with some sense of peace by letting them know that God loves them and that they are not alone.” I, Msgr. Moran, have had the honor of working directly with the Society during my years in India and I know first-hand the wonderful work their subsidies make possible for the building up of the Church. A Second Collection will be taken this weekend August 5&6. Gifts can also be sent to the Parish during this coming week and will be forwarded to the Society of St. Peter the Apostle. Creation Care Team Honored![]() The Catholic Climate Covenant will honor the Creation Care Team at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Marblehead, as an honorable mention in the first U.S. Laudato Si’ Champions Awards in the parish category.

The Catholic Climate Covenant will honor 10 special awards to outstanding Catholic individual, family/couple, diocese, parish, school, university, religious community, business, health care and organization showing real commitment to the Platform’s seven Laudato Si’ goals. Our Parish's Creation Care Team was selected by Covenant staff. "On behalf of Creighton University and Covenant staff and all of our supporters, thank you for your commitment to God’s creation, your fellow humans, and all creatures. You are an inspiration!" read an email from Covenant. Elaine Leahy, Coordinator of the Team, responded to the news saying: " All Parishioners have played a role when they have donated items to the refugees, use the compost bin, pick up litter and generally support the ministry, so it’s an honor for all of us at Our Lady Star of the Sea." We thank the Catholic Climate Covenant for this wonderful honor. We thank especially the members of the Creation Care Team who help our community embrace the teachings of Laudato Si. May we focus on continually improving our efforts. Some new faces! Questions for future events?: jaclyne.ainlay@gmail.com ![]() HOT DOG SUNDAY!
July 2nd's Hot Dog Sunday took place under a drizzly sky and with high expectations for the coming Independence Day celebrations of Marblehead. Hot dogs, fixing's and fine blueberry pies together honored the life, liberty and pursuit of happiness with which God has blessed us. Our only challenge apart from the weather was that our ample supply of "dogs" were exhausted before the luncheon was out! Thanks to all who came for the enjoyment. Gratitude to the many who prepared, cooked and served the doggone delights! ![]() "Garden Party" Evening Concert: Enjoyed By Many!
The "Summer's Here" Garden Party on Saturday evening, June 24, 2023, was a wonderful evening of music, friendship with great food and drink. The rain held off and the sun decided to join the festivities. This was our fifth and final concert in our 2022-23 Concert Series. It featured our very own Music Director, Matt Arnold, along with his talented band: "Matt Arnold and His New England Yankees." Thanks to all who planned and carried out this enjoyable celebration of Summer's opening! ![]() Rosary Group: Thursday mornings at 10:00am

Many of you have cooked and delivered a meal to a friend who is ill, had a death in his/her family, a new mom and dad, or someone experiencing some type of crisis that calls for assistance. A parish “Caring Meals Ministry” works in a similar way. Volunteers sign up to cook and deliver a meal on an occasional basis to a parish member or family that needs assistance. Please consider volunteering in this ministry to lend a helping hand and show fellow parishioners that they are in our thoughts. To learn more or to sign up, please click here. ![]() My Brother's Table Ministry
My Brother's Table is one of our oldest outreach ministries, and was co-founded by our very own parishioner, Nancy Ryan, over 40 years ago. My Brother's Table is a soup kitchen based in Lynn, Massachusetts that has provided cooked meals for the poor since 1982 and continues to operate 7-days a week. Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish helps to support this ministry by asking for volunteers to cook a batch of Beef Stew every other month and drop it off at the Parish Center on the second Tuesday every other month, and our parish would love your help to cook a batch of Beef Stew for My Brother's Table. If you would like to volunteer for this ministry, please reach out to Marjorie Shea at marjorie_shea@comcast.net, or click here to visit the My Brother's Table Ministry webpage. |

Centering Prayer: Monday mornings in the Parish Center
Our Centering Prayer group meets on Mondays after the 9:00AM Mass until 11AM. We meet in the Parish Center. Centering Prayer is a prayer of Silence and Quiet time. Sitting for a short time, while resting in God’s presence, helps to center us. We listen to God’s Word, called ‘Lectio Divina’, where we read the Gospel four times to hear God’s Word on a much deeper level. This group is open to all. For more information about this group, contact Gail Kanarski at 781-631-8296 or Grace Potier at 781-631-9151.
