Lenten Season 2021
Please find the Lenten letters below from Monsignor Moran. ![]() Lent Mass Schedule
Saturday Morning (except for Holy Saturday): 9:00am Saturday Vigil: 4:00pm Sunday: 7:30am, 9:00am, and 11:00am Every Weekday (Monday through Friday): 9:00am Stations of the Cross Friday evenings (except for Good Friday) at 7:00pm Good Friday (April 2) at 12Noon & 3:00pm Confession Wednesday evenings from 6:00—7:00pm Every Saturday (except for Holy Saturday) at 2:30—3:30pm Holy Saturday (April 3) at 11:00am—12Noon Our Lenten Journey 2021 began on Ash Wednesday (February 17) and will end at sundown on Holy Thursday (April 1). We take this time to pray, fast, and give alms in preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. Contemplate the meaning and origins of the Lenten fasting tradition in this reflection. During Lent, the baptized are called to renew their baptismal commitment as others prepare to be baptized through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a period of learning and discernment for individuals who have declared their desire to become Catholics. Fasting & Abstinence: Catholics aged 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent. In addition, Catholics from ages 18 to 59 practice self-control through fasting, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ. Prayer: Catholics are encouraged to pray more during Lent, especially with Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for the celebration of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. Almsgiving: The giving of alms--not only through the distribution of money, but through the sharing of our time and talents--is one way to share God's gifts. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: "Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446). Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the poor the money they saved by eating, drinking or buying less as they rely more on God’s abundant grace. ![]() Easter Service Schedule
