Confirmation Sponsor Requirements
All Confirmation candidates will choose a sponsor in the 11th grade. Please follow these guidelines.
Each Confirmation candidate is to have a Sponsor to present the Candidate for Confirmation.
The following requirements describe the role of Sponsor for Confirmation as set down in the Code of Canon Law in the Church:
The Candidate and parents will be asked to sign a registration form testifying that the Sponsor chosen fulfills the above requirements.

The following requirements describe the role of Sponsor for Confirmation as set down in the Code of Canon Law in the Church:
- It is desirable to choose as sponsor the one who undertook the same function in baptism (Godparent).
- The sponsor is a person who takes care that the confirmed person behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations inherent in this sacrament. Therefore:
- The Sponsor is to be designated by the one to be confirmed, by the parents or the person who takes their place, or in their absence by the pastor or minister and have the aptitude and intention of fulfilling this function;
- The Sponsor is to have completed the sixteenth year of age, unless the diocesan bishop has established another age, or the pastor or minister has granted an exception for a just cause;
- The Sponsor is a Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist and who leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on and the teachings of the Church;
- The Sponsor must not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared;
- The Sponsor must not be the father or mother of the one to be confirmed.
The Candidate and parents will be asked to sign a registration form testifying that the Sponsor chosen fulfills the above requirements.
